[192] **"Whatever" (yā pana):** whoever, of whatever sort … **"Bhikkhunī":** … this one is the **bhikkhunī** intended in this context.
**"Open air" (ajjhokāsa)** means: it is unscreened by a wall, by a door-panel, by a matting screen, by a canvas screen-wall, by a tree, by a pillar, or by a granary — it is unscreened by anything whatsoever.
**"Man" (purisa)** means: a human male — not a yakkha, not a peta, not an animal — one who is intelligent, capable of standing together and of conversing.
**"With" (saddhiṃ):** together.
**"One with one" (ekenekā):** there is just a man and a bhikkhunī.
**"Or should stand":** she stands within arm's reach (hatthapāsa) of the man — an offense of pācittiya.
**"Or should converse":** standing within arm's reach of the man, she converses — an offense of pācittiya.
Having gone beyond arm's reach, she stands together or converses — an offense of dukkaṭa.
She stands together or converses with a yakkha, or a peta, or a paṇḍaka, or an animal having a human-like form — an offense of dukkaṭa.
