[359] "Every half-month" means on every Uposatha day. "Uposatha" refers to the two Uposathas: that of the fourteenth day and that of the fifteenth day. "Exhortation" refers to the eight garudhammas (principles of respect). As soon as he gives up the responsibility, thinking, "I will neither inquire about the Uposatha nor request the exhortation," there is an offense of pācittiya.
