[251] **"Watch closely, night and day, for the destruction of craving (taṇhā)"**: "Craving" means craving for forms (rūpataṇhā), craving for sounds, craving for odors, craving for tastes, craving for tangibles, craving for dhammas. "Ratta" is the night; "aha" is the day. By night and by day, see, watch closely, behold, look upon, contemplate, and examine the destruction of craving — the destruction of lust (rāga), the destruction of hatred, the destruction of delusion, the destruction of destination (gati), the destruction of rearising (upapatti), the destruction of rebirth-linking (paṭisandhi), the destruction of existence (bhava), the destruction of saṃsāra, the destruction of the round (vaṭṭa) — thus, "Watch closely, night and day, for the destruction of craving." Therefore the Blessed One said:
"Contemplating nothingness (ākiñcañña), possessed of mindfulness — (Upasīva," said the Blessed One,)
"relying on 'there is nothing,' cross over the flood (ogha).
Having abandoned sensual pleasures, abstaining from talk,
watch closely, night and day, for the destruction of craving."
