[265] **"Right there he, liberated, would become cool — would there be consciousness of one such as that?"** (tattheva so sītisiyā vimutto, bhavetha viññāṇaṃ tathāvidhassa) means: Having attained the state of coolness right there, he would remain right there — stable, eternal, of a nature not to change — the same for all eternity. Or else, his consciousness (viññāṇa) would pass away, would be annihilated, would perish, would not exist; rebirth-linking consciousness (paṭisandhiviññāṇa) would not be produced in the sensual element (kāmadhātu), in the form element (rūpadhātu), or in the formless element (arūpadhātu) — thus he asks about the eternity and the annihilation of one arisen in the sphere of nothingness (ākiñcaññāyatana). Or else: would he attain final Nibbāna right there, in the Nibbāna element without residue remaining (anupādisesā nibbānadhātu)? Or would his consciousness pass away and rebirth-linking consciousness be produced again in the sensual element, in the form element, or in the formless element? — thus he asks about the final Nibbāna and the rebirth-linking of one arisen in the sphere of nothingness. **"Of one such as that"** (tathāvidhassa) means: of one of such a kind, of one like that, of one so established, of one of that sort, of one of that type, arisen in the sphere of nothingness — hence, "right there he, liberated, would become cool; would there be consciousness of one such as that?" Therefore that brahmin said: "If he should remain there unwavering even for a multitude of years, O All-seeing One (samantacakkhu), right there he, liberated, would become cool — would there be consciousness of one such as that?"
