[392] **Tell me that as it truly is, Blessed One (yathātacchaṃ bhagavā brūhi me taṃ)** — "as it truly is" is a term for the Deathless (amata), Nibbāna: that which is the stilling of all volitional formations, the relinquishment of all acquisitions (upadhi), the destruction of craving (taṇhā), dispassion, cessation, Nibbāna.
**Blessed One** — this is a term of reverence … a designation (paññatti) based on realization, namely "Blessed One."
**Tell me that** — tell, declare, … make it plain; therefore, "tell me that as it truly is, Blessed One."
Hence that brahmin said:
"Having heard, O hero, of you who have no desire for sensual pleasures
(thus said the venerable Jatukaṇṇī),
who have passed beyond the flood, I have come to question the one free from desire.
Declare the state of peace, O you whose eye arose together [with awakening];
Blessed One, tell me that as it truly is."
