[482] **Liberated, bound for that (vimuttaṃ tapparāyanaṃ):** "Liberated" means liberated in the Sphere of Nothingness (ākiñcaññāyatana),² [³] intent upon that (adhimutta), having that as its dominant influence (adhipateyya). Or else, the Blessed One knows: "This person is intent upon forms, intent upon sounds, intent upon odours, intent upon tastes, intent upon tangibles (phoṭṭhabba), intent upon families, intent upon companies, intent upon dwellings, intent upon gain, intent upon fame, intent upon praise, intent upon pleasure, intent upon robes, intent upon almsfood, intent upon lodgings, intent upon the requisite of medicines for the sick, intent upon the Suttantas, intent upon the Vinaya, intent upon the Abhidhamma, intent upon the refuse-rag-wearer's practice (paṃsukūlikaṅga), intent upon the triple-robe-wearer's practice (tecīvarikaṅga), intent upon the alms-food-eater's practice (piṇḍapātikaṅga), intent upon the house-to-house-seeker's practice (sapadānacārikaṅga), intent upon the one-sessioner's practice (ekāsanikaṅga), intent upon the bowl-food-eater's practice (pattapiṇḍikaṅga), intent upon the later-food-refuser's practice (khalupacchābhattikaṅga), intent upon the forest-dweller's practice (āraññikaṅga), intent upon the tree-root-dweller's practice (rukkhamūlikaṅga), intent upon the open-air-dweller's practice (abbhokāsikaṅga), intent upon the charnel-ground-dweller's practice (sosānikaṅga), intent upon the any-bed-user's practice (yathāsanthatikaṅga), intent upon the sitter's practice (nesajjikaṅga), intent upon the first jhāna, intent upon the second jhāna, intent upon the third jhāna, intent upon the fourth jhāna, intent upon the attainment of the Sphere of Infinity of Space (ākāsānañcāyatanasamāpatti), intent upon the attainment of the Sphere of Infinity of Consciousness (viññāṇañcāyatanasamāpatti), intent upon the attainment of the Sphere of Nothingness (ākiñcaññāyatanasamāpatti), intent upon the attainment of the Sphere of Neither Perception Nor Non-Perception (nevasaññānāsaññāyatanasamāpatti)" — thus, "liberated."
**Bound for that (tapparāyanaṃ):** [what is] made of the Sphere of Nothingness is bound for that, bound for kamma, bound for the result (vipāka); it gives weight to kamma, gives weight to rebirth-linking (paṭisandhi). Or else, the Blessed One knows: "This person is bound for form … bound for the attainment of the Sphere of Neither Perception Nor Non-Perception" — thus, "liberated, bound for that." Therefore the Blessed One said:
Directly knowing all the stations of consciousness (viññāṇaṭṭhiti),
(Posāla, said the Blessed One)
the Tathāgata knows this one as he stands,
liberated, bound for that.
