[489] **Of the brāhmaṇa who has lived the life (brāhmaṇassa vusīmato):** As to "of the brāhmaṇa" — one is a brāhmaṇa because of having banished the seven dhammas … [elision in the Pali] … unattached (anissito¹), such a one, he is called Brahmā. Hence "of the brāhmaṇa." **Who has lived the life (vusīmato):** The seven trainees (sekhā), together with the good worldling (kalyāṇaputhujjana)², dwell, dwell together, dwell in, dwell throughout, for the attainment of what has not been attained, for the achievement of what has not been achieved, for the realization of what has not been realized. The arahant has lived the life, has done what had to be done, has laid down the burden, has reached his own true goal, has utterly destroyed the fetters of existence, and is liberated through right final knowledge. He has lived out the dwelling, has completed his conduct … [elision in the Pali] … for him there is no round of birth, aging, and death, no renewed existence. Hence "of the brāhmaṇa who has lived the life." Therefore the Blessed One said: Having known the origin of (the sphere of) nothingness, and (knowing) "delight is a fetter" — having directly known this thus, he then sees with insight therein. This is the true knowledge (ñāṇa) of him, the brāhmaṇa who has lived the life. Together with the conclusion of the verse … [elision in the Pali] … "The Blessed One, venerable sir, is my teacher; I am his disciple." The Exposition of the Questions of the Young Man Posāla, the Fourteenth, is finished. __________________ The Exposition of the Questions of the Young Man Mogharāja ¹ Variant (M.): *asito*. ² Variant (M.): *puthujjanakalyāṇaṃ*.
