[491] **"Twice, O Sakka, have I asked" (dvāhaṃ sakka apucchissaṃ)**: That brahmin asked the Buddha, the Blessed One, the question twice. The Blessed One, though asked the question by him, did not answer, [seeing] immediately within the range of his eye: "There will be a ripening of this brahmin's faculties (indriya)."
**"Sakka"**: The Blessed One is Sakka. The Blessed One went forth from the Sakyan clan; for this reason too he is Sakka. Or else, he is rich, of great wealth, possessed of wealth; for this reason too he is Sakka. These are his treasures, namely: the treasure of faith (saddhā), the treasure of virtue (sīla), the treasure of moral shame (hiri), the treasure of moral dread (ottappa), the treasure of learning (suta), the treasure of generosity (cāga), the treasure of wisdom (paññā), the treasure of the establishments of mindfulness (satipaṭṭhāna), the treasure of the right strivings (sammappadhāna), the treasure of the bases of spiritual power (iddhipāda), the treasure of the faculties, the treasure of the powers (bala), the treasure of the factors of awakening (bojjhaṅga), the treasure of the path (magga), the treasure of fruition (phala), the treasure of Nibbāna. Because he is rich, of great wealth, possessed of wealth through these manifold jewel-treasures, for this reason too he is Sakka.
Or else, Sakka means: he is able, capable, adequate, heroic, valiant, courageous, unafraid, undaunted, not given to terror, not one who flees; he has abandoned fear and dread and is free from horripilation — for this reason too he is Sakka. Hence: "Twice, O Sakka."
**"Have I asked" (apucchissaṃ)**: Twice, O Sakka, have I asked, entreated, invited, sought your favor. Hence: "Twice, O Sakka, have I asked."
**"So [said] the venerable Mogharājā" (iccāyasmā Mogharājā)**: The word "icca" is a verbal juncture (padasandhi). "Āyasmā" is a term of affection. "Mogharājā" is that brahmin's name … a designation. Hence: "So [said] the venerable Mogharājā."
