[556] **They were gladdened by the One with Vision (te tositā cakkhumatā).** "They" (te): the sixteen brahmins of the Pārāyana. "Gladdened" (tositā): gladdened, thoroughly gladdened, inspired with confidence, won over, made pleased in mind; therefore, "they were gladdened."
"By the One with Vision" (cakkhumatā): the Blessed One is possessed of vision through five eyes — possessed of vision through the fleshly eye (maṃsacakkhu), possessed of vision through the divine eye (dibbacakkhu), possessed of vision through the eye of wisdom (paññācakkhu), possessed of vision through the Buddha-eye (buddhacakkhu), and possessed of vision through the all-seeing eye (samantacakkhu).
How is the Blessed One possessed of vision through the fleshly eye? … Thus the Blessed One is possessed of vision through the all-seeing eye. Therefore, "they were gladdened by the One with Vision."
