[559] **In the presence of the one of excellent wisdom (varapaññassa santike)**: of the one of excellent wisdom, of foremost wisdom, of the best wisdom, [2] of chief wisdom, of supreme wisdom, of most excellent wisdom.
**In the presence (santike)**: in the presence, in the vicinity, near, not far off, close at hand — thus, "in the presence of the one of excellent wisdom." Therefore it is said:
They, gladdened by the One with Vision (cakkhumā), the Buddha, Kinsman of the Sun (ādiccabandhu),
lived the holy life (brahmacariya) in the presence of the one of excellent wisdom.
