[730] **Cold and heat, hunger, thirst** (sītañca uṇhañca khudaṃ pipāsaṃ): Cold arises from two causes: cold arises through the disturbance of the internal elements (dhātu), or cold arises through the external season (utu). **Heat**: heat arises from two causes: heat arises through the disturbance of the internal elements, or heat arises through the external season. Famishment is called **hunger** (khudā). The desire for water is called **thirst** (pipāsā). Hence: "cold and heat, hunger, thirst."
