[785] **"Having abandoned the five obstructions (āvaraṇa) of the mind":** That Paccekasambuddha, having abandoned, given up, dispelled, made an end of, and brought to non-existence the hindrance (nīvaraṇa) of sensual desire (kāmacchanda);¹ having abandoned, given up, dispelled, made an end of, and brought to non-existence the hindrance of ill will (byāpāda), the hindrance of dullness and drowsiness (thīna-middha), the hindrance of restlessness and remorse (uddhacca-kukkucca), and the hindrance of doubt (vicikicchā) — secluded from sensual pleasures, secluded from unwholesome states, he enters and dwells in the first jhāna, which is accompanied by thought and examination, with rapture (pīti) and happiness born of seclusion. Hence, "having abandoned the five obstructions of the mind."
