[787] **"Not dependent, having cut off affection and hatred" (anissito chetvā snehadosaṃ):** "Not dependent (anissito)" — there are two dependencies (nissaya): dependence through craving (taṇhā) and dependence through view (diṭṭhi) … This is dependence through craving … This is dependence through view. "Affection (sneha)" — there are two affections: affection through craving and affection through view … This is affection through craving … This is affection through view. "Hatred (dosa)" — whatever is resentment of mind (citta), repulsion, irritation, antagonism, anger, indignation, wrath, hatred, hating, hatefulness, malevolence of mind, mental resentment, anger, becoming angry, the state of being angry, hate, hating, the state of hatefulness, ill will, showing ill will, the state of ill will, opposition, hostility, ferocity, churlishness, and displeasure of mind.
"Not dependent, having cut off affection and hatred": that Paccekasambuddha, having cut, cut off, completely cut off, abandoned, dispelled, made an end of, and reduced to non-existence affection through craving, affection through view, and hatred, is not dependent on the eye, not dependent on the ear … not dependent on things seen, heard, sensed, or to be cognized; unattached, not drawing near, not clinging, not resolved upon them; gone out, renounced, released, detached, he dwells with a mind rid of boundaries. Hence, "not dependent, having cut off affection and hatred. One should wander alone, like the horn of a rhinoceros." Therefore that Paccekasambuddha said:
Having abandoned the five obstructions of the mind,
having dispelled all mental defilements (upakkilesa),
not dependent, having cut off affection and hatred,
one should wander alone, like the horn of a rhinoceros.
