[818] **They associate with and keep company, with benefit as the reason (kāraṇatthā):** with their own welfare (attattha) as the reason, with the welfare of others (parattha) as the reason, with the welfare of both (ubhayattha) as the reason, with welfare in the present life (diṭṭhadhammikattha) as the reason, with welfare in the life to come (samparāyikattha) as the reason, with the highest good (paramattha) as the reason, they associate with, associate closely with, keep company with, [3] frequent — thus, "they associate with and keep company, with benefit as the reason."
