[126] How is the directing (abhinīhāra) of the mind (citta) in equanimity regarding formations (saṅkhārupekkhā) one and the same for the ordinary person (puthujjana) and for the trainee (sekkha)?
When an ordinary person delights in equanimity regarding formations, the mind is defiled; it is an impediment to mental development (bhāvanā), it is an obstacle to penetration (paṭivedha), and it is a condition for future rebirth-linking (āyatipaṭisandhi). When a trainee too delights in equanimity regarding formations, the mind is defiled; it is an impediment to mental development, it is an obstacle to further penetration, and it is a condition for future rebirth-linking. Thus the directing of the mind in equanimity regarding formations is one and the same for the ordinary person and for the trainee — in the sense of delighting.
