[211] How is it that wisdom (paññā) in the cutting off of the taints (āsava), owing to purity through non-distraction (avikkhepa), is knowledge (ñāṇa) of concentration with immediate result (ānantarikasamādhi)?
One-pointedness of mind (citta) by way of renunciation (nekkhamma), being non-distraction, is concentration (samādhi). By virtue of that concentration, knowledge arises; by that knowledge the taints are exhausted. Thus first there is serenity (samatha), afterwards knowledge; by that knowledge there comes to be the exhaustion of the taints. Therefore it is said: wisdom in the cutting off of the taints, owing to purity through non-distraction, is knowledge of concentration with immediate result.
