[23] It should be directly known (abhiññeyyaṃ) that arising (uppāda) is peril, non-arising is security. It should be directly known that occurrence (pavatta) is peril, non-occurrence is security. It should be directly known that the sign (nimitta) is peril, the signless is security. It should be directly known that accumulation (āyuhanā) is peril, non-accumulation is security. It should be directly known that rebirth-linking (paṭisandhi) is peril, absence of rebirth-linking is security. It should be directly known that destination (gati) is peril, absence of destination is security. It should be directly known that production (nibbatti) is peril, non-production is security. It should be directly known that reappearance (upapatti) is peril, non-reappearance is security. It should be directly known that birth (jāti) is peril, non-birth is security. It should be directly known that aging (jarā) is peril, non-aging is security. It should be directly known that illness (byādhi) is peril, absence of illness is security. It should be directly known that death (maraṇa) is peril, the deathless (amata) is security. It should be directly known that sorrow (soka) is peril, absence of sorrow is security. It should be directly known that lamentation (parideva) is peril, non-lamentation is security. It should be directly known that despair (upāyāsa) is peril, non-despair is security.
