[250] How is wisdom in relinquishment (vossagga) knowledge (ñāṇa) of turning away through liberation (vimokkhavivaṭṭa)?
"By renunciation (nekkhamma) one relinquishes sensual desire (kāmacchanda)" — thus wisdom in relinquishment is knowledge of turning away through liberation. "By non-ill will one relinquishes ill will (byāpāda)" — thus wisdom in relinquishment is knowledge of turning away through liberation. "By the perception of light one relinquishes dullness and drowsiness (thīna-middha)" — thus wisdom in relinquishment is knowledge of turning away through liberation. "By non-distraction one relinquishes restlessness (uddhacca)" — thus wisdom in relinquishment is knowledge of turning away through liberation. "By the defining of dhammas one relinquishes doubt (vicikicchā)" — thus wisdom in relinquishment is knowledge of turning away through liberation. … "By the path (magga) of arahantship one relinquishes all defilements" — thus wisdom in relinquishment is knowledge of turning away through liberation.
That is knowledge in the sense of what is known, and wisdom in the sense of understanding. Therefore it is said: wisdom in relinquishment is knowledge of turning away through liberation.
