[292] "The All-seeing Eye (samantacakkhu)": in what sense is he the All-seeing Eye? There are fourteen Buddha-knowledges (buddhañāṇa): knowledge (ñāṇa) of suffering (dukkha) is a Buddha-knowledge; knowledge of the origin of suffering is a Buddha-knowledge; knowledge of the cessation of suffering is a Buddha-knowledge; knowledge of the way of practice leading to the cessation of suffering is a Buddha-knowledge; knowledge of the discrimination of meanings (attha-paṭisambhidā) is a Buddha-knowledge; knowledge of the discrimination of dhammas (dhamma-paṭisambhidā) is a Buddha-knowledge; knowledge of the discrimination of language (nirutti-paṭisambhidā) is a Buddha-knowledge; knowledge of the discrimination of perspicuity (paṭibhāṇa-paṭisambhidā) is a Buddha-knowledge; knowledge of the superiority and inferiority of faculties (indriyaparopariyatta) is a Buddha-knowledge; knowledge of the dispositions and latent tendencies (āsayānusaya) of beings is a Buddha-knowledge; knowledge of the twin miracle (yamakapāṭihāriya) is a Buddha-knowledge; knowledge of the attainment of great compassion (mahākaruṇāsamāpatti) is a Buddha-knowledge; the knowledge of omniscience (sabbaññutañāṇa) is a Buddha-knowledge; the unobstructed knowledge (anāvaraṇañāṇa) is a Buddha-knowledge. These are the fourteen Buddha-knowledges. Of these fourteen Buddha-knowledges, the first eight knowledges are shared in common with disciples; six knowledges are not shared with disciples.
