[354] By which eight aspects is there adherence (abhinivesa) in the case of the view (diṭṭhi) connected with doctrines about the world (lokavāda)? The misapprehension (parāmāsa) through adherence "The self and the world are eternal" is a view connected with doctrines about the world. The view is not the basis (vatthu); the basis is not the view; the view is one thing, the basis another; the view together with the basis — this is the first view connected with doctrines about the world. A view connected with doctrines about the world is wrong view … these are fetters (saṃyojana), and not views. The misapprehension through adherence "The self and the world are non-eternal," "The self and the world are both eternal and non-eternal" … "The self and the world are neither eternal nor non-eternal," "The self and the world are finite," "The self and the world are infinite," "The self and the world are both finite and infinite," "The self and the world are neither finite nor infinite" is a view connected with doctrines about the world. The view is not the basis; the basis is not the view; the view is one thing, the basis another; the view together with the basis — this is the eighth view connected with doctrines about the world. A view connected with doctrines about the world is wrong view … these are fetters, and not views. It is by these eight aspects that there is adherence in the case of the view connected with doctrines about the world.
