[418] How does one train thus: 'Contemplating cessation, I shall breathe in'; how does one train thus: 'Contemplating cessation, I shall breathe out'?
Having seen the danger (ādīnava) in form, desire (chanda) is born in him for the cessation of form; he is resolved through faith (saddhādhimutta), and his mind (citta) is well established therein; he trains thus: 'Contemplating cessation in form, I shall breathe in'; he trains thus: 'Contemplating cessation in form, I shall breathe out.' Having seen the danger in feeling (vedanā), in perception, in volitional formations, in consciousness, in the eye … in aging and death, desire is born in him for the cessation of aging and death; he is resolved through faith, and his mind is well established therein; he trains thus: 'Contemplating cessation in aging and death, I shall breathe in'; he trains thus: 'Contemplating cessation in aging and death, I shall breathe out.'
