[11] The Gaṅgā named Bhāgīrasī, issuing forth from the Himavant:
at a rough ford I was a ferryman, and I ferried [people] across from the near shore.
Padumuttara the Leader, the Fully Enlightened One, supreme among two-footed beings,
together with twenty hundred thousand [bhikkhus], was to cross the stream of the Gaṅgā.
Having brought together many boats, and made upon a boat a canopy
well wrought by carpenters, I awaited the Bull of Men (narāsabha).
And the Fully Enlightened One, having come, boarded the vessel;
standing in the midst of the water, the Teacher spoke these verses:
"He who has ferried across the Fully Enlightened One and the Saṅgha free of taints (āsava),
by that confidence of mind (citta) he will rejoice in the heavenly world (devaloka).
There will arise for you a celestial mansion (byamha), well made, shaped like a ship;
in the sky it will hold aloft a canopy of flowers at all times.
In the fifty-eighth aeon (kappa) a khattiya named Tāraṇa
will be a wheel-turning monarch (cakkavatti), a victor, lord of the four quarters.
In the fifty-seventh aeon a khattiya named Cambaka,
of great might, will shine forth like the rising sun.
A hundred thousand aeons hence, one arisen in the family of Okkāka,
Gotama by clan, will be the Teacher in the world.
Passing away from [the heaven of] the Thirty, he will go to the human state;
Revata by name, he will be a kinsman of Brahmā [a brahmin].
Having departed from home, urged on by the bright root [of merit],
he will go forth in the dispensation (sāsana) of the Blessed One Gotama.
Afterwards, having gone forth, devoted to the practice, a practitioner of insight,
having fully understood all the taints, he will attain Nibbāna, free of taints."
My energy (vīriya) is the burden-bearer, bringing me to security from bondage (yogakkhema);
I bear my final body in the dispensation of the Fully Self-Enlightened One.
The four analytic insights (paṭisambhidā), and also these eight liberations (vimokkha),
and the six superknowledges (chaḷabhiññā) have been realized; the Buddha's dispensation has been fulfilled.
Thus indeed did the venerable Elder Khadiravaniya Revata speak these verses.
The Apadāna of the Elder Khadiravaniya Revata is concluded.
