[143] When the Blessed One Atthadassī, supreme among men, had attained final Nibbāna (parinibbuta),
I had a parasol upon parasol (chattātichatta) made and raised it upon the stūpa (thūpa).
Coming from time to time, I paid homage to the Leader of the World;
having made a canopy of flowers, I raised it aloft upon the parasol.
For seventeen hundred aeons (kappa) I exercised the kingship of the devas;
I did not pass to the human state: this is the fruit of worshipping the stūpa.
The four analytic insights (paṭisambhidā), and these eight liberations (vimokkha) as well,
and the six superknowledges (chaḷabhiññā) have been realized; the Buddha's teaching (sāsana) has been fulfilled.
Thus indeed did the Venerable Adhichattiya the Elder speak these verses.
