[215] The Blessed One named Vessabhū,² at the head of the Saṅgha of bhikkhus,
taught the noble truths (ariyasacca), quenching the great multitude.
I had come to a state deserving the utmost compassion (kāruñña); I went to the assembly,
and as I sat there I heard the Dhamma of the Teacher.
Having heard his Dhamma, I went to the world of the devas (devaloka);
for thirty aeons (kappa) I formerly dwelt there among the devas.
Since it was in the thirty-first aeon from now that I then gained that perception (saññā),
I know of no bad destination (duggati): this is the fruit of the perception of the truths (saccasaññā).
In the twenty-sixth aeon from now I was one lord of the people,
a wheel-turning monarch (cakkavatti) of great might, named Ekaphussita.
The four analytic insights (paṭisambhidā), and these eight liberations (vimokkha) too,
and the six superknowledges (chaḷabhiññā) have been realized; the Buddha's teaching (sāsana) has been fulfilled.
Thus indeed did the Venerable Elder (thera) Saccasaññaka speak these verses.
