[16] The Blessed One, of well-composed thought, the eldest of the world, the bull among men, had entered the great forest, oppressed by an ailment of wind. [Apparatus, pertaining to the preceding apadāna on this page: ¹ Ma.: sakosakaṃ; Yu.: sakoṭakaṃ. ² Ma.: suppabhāso.] Seeing him, I made my mind (citta) confident and brought him ghee-scum (ghaṭamaṇḍa); because of that deed done and the reverence paid,¹ this Ganges, the Bhāgīrasī,² and the four great oceans turn to ghee for me; and this dreadful earth, measureless, incalculable, knowing my intention, becomes honey and sugar; these trees of the four quarters,³ plants that spring up from the soil, knowing my intention, become wish-granting trees. Fifty times, as lord of the devas, I exercised the kingship of the devas; and fifty-one times I was a universal monarch (cakkavatti); [I held] extensive local kingship, incalculable by count. In the ninety-fourth aeon from now, whatever gift I gave then — [since then] I know of no bad destination: this is the fruit of the ghee-scum. My defilements have been burned away; all existences have been uprooted; like an elephant that has burst its bonds, I dwell free of taints (āsava). Welcome indeed was my coming into my Buddha's presence: the three true knowledges (vijjā) have been attained; the Buddha's teaching has been fulfilled. The four analytic insights (paṭisambhidā), and also these eight liberations (vimokkha), the six superknowledges (chaḷabhiññā) have been realized; the Buddha's teaching has been fulfilled. Thus indeed did the Venerable Elder Ghaṭamaṇḍadāyaka speak these verses. The Apadāna of the Elder Ghaṭamaṇḍadāyaka is concluded. [Apparatus: ¹ Ma., Yu.: ācitattā ca ("and because of what was heaped up"). ² Ma.: Bhāgīrathī. ³ Ma., Yu.: cātuddīpā ("on the four continents").] The seventh: the Apadāna of the Elder Ekadhammasavaniya (427)
