[169] A hundred thousand eons (kappa) and four incalculables (asaṅkheyya) ago,
the Victor (jina) named Dīpaṅkara, the Leader of the World, arose.
Dīpaṅkara, the Great Hero, the Guide (vināyaka), predicted
that Sumedha and Sumittā would have happiness and suffering in common (samānasukhadukkhatā).
Seeing [the world] with its devas, wandering [the world] with its devas,
at the proclaiming of those two he came to us in assembly.
In a future coming-together he shall be the husband of us all;
all of us shall be your wives, agreeable, speaking with affection.
Giving (dāna), all that consists of virtue (sīlamaya), and meditation (bhāvanā) well developed —
for a long time, O Great Sage, all this was given up [by us].
Scents and garlands, unguents, and lamps made of jewels —
whatever was wished for, all of it was given up, O Great Sage.
And whatever other deed was done, and human enjoyment as well —
for a long time indeed, O Great Sage, all this of ours was given up.
Much merit (puñña) indeed was made by us through the round of many births (anekajātisaṃsāra);
having enjoyed sovereignty, having wandered on through existence after existence,
when the final existence had arrived, [we were] born into various families
in the household of the Sakyan son — [like] nymphs (accharā) of desirable beauty.
Having attained fame through the foremost of gain, honored, revered by all,
recipients of food and drink, we were always highly esteemed.
Having abandoned the house, we went forth into homelessness;
before half a month had passed, we all attained quenching (nibbuti).
Recipients of food and drink, and of robes and lodgings too,
all the requisites (paccaya) come to us; we are ever revered and honored.
Our defilements (kilesa) have been burned away; all existences have been rooted out;
like a she-elephant that has sundered her bonds, we dwell without taints (āsava).
Welcome indeed was our coming into the presence of the Best of Buddhas!
The three true knowledges (vijjā) have been attained; the Buddha's teaching (sāsana) has been done.
The four analytical insights (paṭisambhidā), and these eight liberations (vimokkha) as well,
the six superknowledges (chaḷabhiññā) have been realized; the Buddha's teaching has been done.
Thus indeed did the ten thousand bhikkhunīs headed by Yasodharā speak these verses in the presence of the Blessed One.
The Apadāna of the Ten Thousand Therīs is concluded.
