[604] Which is that external form (rūpa) that is not the physical base (vatthu) of feeling (vedanā) born of body-contact (kāyasamphassa) … of perception (saññā) … of volition (cetanā) … of body-consciousness (kāyaviññāṇa)? The form sense base (rūpāyatana) … edible nutriment (kabaḷiṅkāra āhāra) — this is that external form that is not the physical base of body-consciousness. Which is that internal form that is the physical base of body-consciousness? The body sense base (kāyāyatana) — this is that internal form that is the physical base of body-consciousness. Which is that internal form that is not the physical base of body-consciousness? The eye sense base (cakkhāyatana) … the tongue sense base (jivhāyatana) — this is that internal form that is not the physical base of body-consciousness.
