[686] Which phenomena (dhammā) are internal (ajjhattā)?
Those phenomena which, for this or that being, are internal, personal (paccatta), one's own (niyaka), individual (pāṭipuggalika), clung-to (upādinna) — namely form (rūpa), feeling (vedanā), perception (saññā), volitional formations (saṅkhārā), consciousness (viññāṇa) — these phenomena are internal.
Which phenomena are external (bahiddhā)?
Those phenomena which, for this or that other being, for this or that other person, are internal, personal, one's own, individual, clung-to — namely form, feeling, perception, volitional formations, consciousness — these phenomena are external.
Which phenomena are internal-and-external (ajjhattabahiddhā)?
Both of these — these phenomena are internal-and-external.
