[1000] Therein, which are the six explorations with equanimity (upekkhūpavicārā)? Having seen a form with the eye, one explores a form that is a basis for equanimity (upekkhā); having heard a sound with the ear, … having smelled an odour with the nose, … having tasted a flavour with the tongue, … having touched a tangible object with the body, … having cognized a mental phenomenon (dhamma) with the mind, one explores a mental phenomenon that is a basis for equanimity. These are the six explorations with equanimity.
