[1116] Of the five aggregates (khandha), how many are with thought-conception and discursive thought (savitakka-savicāra), how many are without thought-conception, with discursive thought only (avitakka-vicāramatta), how many are without thought-conception and without discursive thought (avitakka-avicāra)? … Of the seven minds (citta), how many are with thought-conception and discursive thought, how many are without thought-conception, with discursive thought only, how many are without thought-conception and without discursive thought? The form aggregate (rūpakkhandha) is without thought-conception and without discursive thought. Three aggregates may be with thought-conception and discursive thought; may be without thought-conception, with discursive thought only; may be without thought-conception and without discursive thought. The aggregate of volitional formations (saṅkhārakkhandha) may be with thought-conception and discursive thought; may be without thought-conception, with discursive thought only; may be without thought-conception and without discursive thought; and may be such that it should not be said to be either with thought-conception and discursive thought, or without thought-conception, with discursive thought only, or without thought-conception and without discursive thought. Ten sense bases (āyatana) are without thought-conception and without discursive thought. The mind base (manāyatana) may be with thought-conception and discursive thought; may be without thought-conception, with discursive thought only; may be without thought-conception and without discursive thought. The dhamma base (dhammāyatana) may be with thought-conception and discursive thought; may be without thought-conception, with discursive thought only; may be without thought-conception and without discursive thought; and may be such that it should not be said to be either with thought-conception and discursive thought, or without thought-conception, with discursive thought only, or without thought-conception and without discursive thought. Fifteen elements (dhātu) are without thought-conception and without discursive thought. The mind element (manodhātu) is with thought-conception and discursive thought. The mind-consciousness element (manoviññāṇadhātu) may be with thought-conception and discursive thought; may be without thought-conception, with discursive thought only; may be without thought-conception and without discursive thought. The dhamma element (dhammadhātu) may be with thought-conception and discursive thought; may be without thought-conception, with discursive thought only; may be without thought-conception and without discursive thought; and may be such that it should not be said to be either with thought-conception and discursive thought, or without thought-conception, with discursive thought only, or without thought-conception and without discursive thought. The truth of origin (samudayasacca) is with thought-conception and discursive thought. The truth of cessation (nirodhasacca) is without thought-conception and without discursive thought. The truth of the path (maggasacca) may be with thought-conception and discursive thought; may be without thought-conception, with discursive thought only; may be without thought-conception and without discursive thought. The truth of suffering (dukkhasacca) may be with thought-conception and discursive thought; may be without thought-conception, with discursive thought only; may be without thought-conception and without discursive thought; and may be such that it should not be said to be either with thought-conception and discursive thought, or without thought-conception, with discursive thought only, or without thought-conception and without discursive thought. Nine faculties (indriya) are without thought-conception and without discursive thought. The grief faculty (domanassindriya) is with thought-conception and discursive thought. The equanimity faculty (upekkhindriya) may be with thought-conception and discursive thought; may be without thought-conception and without discursive thought. Eleven faculties may be with thought-conception and discursive thought; may be without thought-conception, with discursive thought only; may be without thought-conception and without discursive thought. The three unwholesome roots (akusala-hetu) are with thought-conception and discursive thought. Six roots (hetu) may be with thought-conception and discursive thought; may be without thought-conception, with discursive thought only; may be without thought-conception and without discursive thought. Edible-food nutriment (kabaḷiṅkāra āhāra) is without thought-conception and without discursive thought. Three nutriments (āhāra) may be with thought-conception and discursive thought; may be without thought-conception, with discursive thought only; may be without thought-conception and without discursive thought. Five contacts (phassa) are without thought-conception and without discursive thought. Mind-element contact (manodhātu-samphassa) is with thought-conception and discursive thought. Mind-consciousness-element contact (manoviññāṇadhātu-samphassa) may be with thought-conception and discursive thought; may be without thought-conception, with discursive thought only; may be without thought-conception and without discursive thought. Five feelings (vedanā), five perceptions (saññā), five volitions (cetanā), and five minds are without thought-conception and without discursive thought. The mind element is with thought-conception and discursive thought. The mind-consciousness element may be with thought-conception and discursive thought; may be without thought-conception, with discursive thought only; may be without thought-conception and without discursive thought.
