[551] Therein, which is the awakening factor of equanimity (upekkhā-sambojjhaṅga)? There is equanimity regarding internal phenomena (dhammā); there is equanimity regarding external phenomena. Whatever equanimity there is regarding internal phenomena, that too is the awakening factor of equanimity; it leads to direct knowledge (abhiññā), to awakening (sambodha), to Nibbāna. Whatever equanimity there is regarding external phenomena, that too is the awakening factor of equanimity; it leads to direct knowledge, to awakening, to Nibbāna.
