[747] Herein, what is altruistic joy (muditā)?
That which, toward beings, is altruistic joy, the act of rejoicing, the state of rejoicing, the deliverance of mind that is altruistic joy (muditā cetovimutti) — this is called altruistic joy.
Herein, what is mind (citta)?
That which is mind, mentality, mentation, … the corresponding mind-consciousness element (tajjā manoviññāṇadhātu) — this is called mind.
This mind is accompanied by this altruistic joy, arisen together with it, conjoined with it, associated with it; therefore it is said, "with a mind accompanied by altruistic joy."
"One direction": the eastern direction, or the western direction, or the northern direction, or the southern direction, or above, or below, or across, or the intermediate direction.
"Having pervaded": having pervaded, having resolved [the mind] upon.
"Dwells": moves about, … dwells; therefore it is said, "dwells."
"Likewise the second": just as the one direction, so the second direction, so the third direction, so the fourth direction, so above, so below, so across, so the intermediate direction.
"Everywhere, to all as to oneself, the entire world": this expression, "everywhere, to all as to oneself, the entire world," is said taking up all in its entirety, all in every way, without remainder, without residue.
"With a mind accompanied by altruistic joy": Herein, what is altruistic joy?
