[801] The five consciousnesses (pañcaviññāṇa) are exclusively not roots, exclusively without roots, exclusively dissociated from roots, exclusively having conditions, exclusively conditioned, exclusively immaterial, exclusively mundane, exclusively subject to taints (āsava), exclusively subject to fetters (saṃyojana), exclusively subject to ties, exclusively subject to floods, exclusively subject to bonds, exclusively subject to hindrances (nīvaraṇa), exclusively adhered to, exclusively subject to clinging, exclusively subject to defilement, exclusively indeterminate, exclusively having an object, exclusively not mental factors, exclusively resultant, exclusively clung-to and subject to clinging, exclusively undefiled yet subject to defilement, exclusively not accompanied by thought (vitakka) and examination (vicāra), exclusively not without thought and with examination only, exclusively without thought and without examination, exclusively not accompanied by rapture (pīti), exclusively to be abandoned neither by seeing nor by development, exclusively having roots to be abandoned neither by seeing nor by development, exclusively neither leading to accumulation nor leading to diminution, exclusively neither of trainees nor of those beyond training, exclusively limited, exclusively of the sense sphere (kāmāvacara), exclusively not of the form sphere, exclusively not of the formless sphere, exclusively included, exclusively not unincluded, exclusively unfixed, exclusively not leading out, and, when arisen, exclusively cognizable by mind-consciousness (manoviññāṇa), exclusively impermanent, exclusively overcome by aging.
