[960] Therein, what is unwise attention (ayoniso manasikāra)? Unwise attention to the impermanent as 'permanent'; unwise attention to what is suffering (dukkha) as 'happiness'; unwise attention to what is non-self as 'self'; unwise attention to the foul as 'beautiful'; or the adverting, repeated adverting, consideration, focusing, and attention of the mind (citta) in a manner contrary to truth — this is called unwise attention. Therein, what is pursuit of a wrong path (kummaggasevanā)? Therein, what is a wrong path (kummagga)? Wrong view (micchādiṭṭhi), wrong thought (micchāsaṅkappa), wrong speech (micchāvācā), wrong action (micchākammanta), wrong livelihood (micchā-ājīva), wrong effort (micchāvāyāma), wrong mindfulness (micchāsati), wrong concentration (micchāsamādhi) — this is called a wrong path. That which is the pursuing of this wrong path, the constant pursuing, the thorough pursuing, the resorting to it, the thorough resorting to it, the devotion to it, the thorough devotion to it, the inclination toward it — this is called pursuit of a wrong path. Therein, what is sluggishness of mind (cetaso līnattaṃ)? That which is indisposition of the mind, unwieldiness, drooping, sagging; sluggishness, growing sluggish, the state of having grown sluggish; dullness, growing dull, the state of having grown dull, of the mind — this is called sluggishness of mind.
