[1143] S.: Should it not be said, "The thing to be given (deyyadhamma) is a gift (dāna)"? P.: Yes. S.: But was it not said by the Blessed One: "Here someone gives food, gives drink, gives clothing, gives a vehicle, gives a garland, gives scent, gives unguent, gives a bed, gives a dwelling, gives a lamp" — does such a discourse (suttanta) indeed exist? P.: Yes. S.: Well then, the thing to be given is a gift.
