[1230] [Sakavādin:] There is therein the tongue base (jivhāyatana), there is the taste base (rasāyatana) … There is therein the body base (kāyāyatana), there is the tangible-object base (phoṭṭhabbāyatana), and yet one does not touch that tangible object (phoṭṭhabba) with that body? [Paravādin:] Yes. [Sakavādin:] There is therein the eye base (cakkhāyatana), there is the form base (rūpāyatana), and yet one does not see that form (rūpa) with that eye? [Paravādin:] It should not be said thus. … [Sakavādin:] There is therein the body base, there is the tangible-object base, and yet one does not touch that tangible object with that body? [Paravādin:] Yes. [Sakavādin:] There is therein the ear base (sotāyatana), there is the sound base (saddāyatana) … There is therein the mind base (manāyatana), there is the dhamma base (dhammāyatana), and yet one does not cognize that dhamma with that mind (mano)? [Paravādin:] It should not be said thus. …
