[1485] Sakavādin: Is sound a result (vipāka)?
Paravādin: Yes.
S.: Is sound to be experienced as pleasant (sukhavedaniya), to be experienced as painful, to be experienced as neither-painful-nor-pleasant; associated (sampayutta) with pleasant feeling (vedanā), associated with painful feeling, associated with neither-painful-nor-pleasant feeling; associated with contact (phassa), associated with feeling, associated with perception (saññā), associated with volition (cetanā), associated with mind (citta); having an object (sārammaṇa)? Is there for it adverting (āvajjanā), ideation (ābhoga), bringing to mind (samannāhāra), attention (manasikāra), volition, aspiration (patthanā), resolve (paṇidhi)?
P.: It should not be said so. …
S.: Is it not the case that sound is not to be experienced as pleasant, not to be experienced as painful, … that it is without an object (anārammaṇa), that there is for it no adverting … resolve?
P.: Yes.
S.: If sound is not to be experienced as pleasant, … is without an object, and there is for it no adverting … resolve, then indeed, sir, it should not be said that sound is a result.
