P.: Is the noble path eightfold (ariyo aṭṭhaṅgiko maggo)?
S.: Yes.
P.: But was it not said by the Blessed One: "And his bodily action (kāyakamma), verbal action (vacīkamma), and livelihood (ājīva) have already been well purified beforehand; thus for him this noble eightfold path (magga) comes to fulfillment through development (bhāvanā)" — does such a discourse (suttanta) indeed exist?
S.: Yes.
P.: Well then, the path is fivefold.
