[259] S. Is it because there is no wearing of the ochre robe (kāsāva) among the devas that there is no living of the holy life (brahmacariyavāsa) among the devas? P. Yes. S. Wherever there is the wearing of the ochre robe, is it there alone that there is the living of the holy life; and wherever there is no wearing of the ochre robe, is there no living of the holy life there? P. It should not be said thus. … S. Wherever there is the wearing of the ochre robe, is it there alone that there is the living of the holy life; and wherever there is no wearing of the ochre robe, is there no living of the holy life there? P. Yes. S. Whoever wears the ochre robe, is it he alone who has the living of the holy life; and whoever does not wear the ochre robe, is there no living of the holy life for him? P.
