S. Do those phenomena (dhammā) change more swiftly than the mind (citta)?
P. Yes.
S. But was it not said by the Blessed One: "Just as, bhikkhus, a monkey roaming in a forest, in a great wood, seizes a branch; having let that go, it seizes another; having let that go, it seizes another — even so, bhikkhus, that which is called 'mind' (citta), likewise 'mentality' (mano), likewise 'consciousness' (viññāṇa): by night and by day, it arises as one thing and ceases as another"¹ — is there indeed such a discourse (suttanta)?
P. Yes.
S. Then indeed it should not be said, "Those phenomena change more swiftly than the mind."
