[642] S. All conditioned things (saṅkhārā), without qualification (anodhiṃ katvā), are hot embers (kukkuḷa)?
P. Yes.
S. But was it not said by the Blessed One: "Bhikkhus, there are these five strands of sensual pleasure (kāmaguṇā). Which five? Forms cognizable by the eye that are wished for, desirable, agreeable, endearing, connected with sensuality, provocative of lust; sounds cognizable by the ear …; odours cognizable by the nose …; tastes cognizable by the tongue …; tangibles cognizable by the body that are wished for, desirable, agreeable, endearing, connected with sensuality, provocative of lust — these, bhikkhus, are the five strands of sensual pleasure"? Does such a sutta indeed exist?
P. Yes.
S. Then indeed it should not be said that all conditioned things, without qualification, are hot embers.
