[968] P. Is it not to be said that one endowed with the marks (lakkhaṇa) is a Bodhisatta?
S. Yes.
P. But was it not said by the Blessed One: "Bhikkhus, there are these thirty-two marks of a Great Man (mahāpurisa-lakkhaṇa), and for a Great Man endowed with them there are only two destinies (gati), and no other: if he dwells in the home, he becomes a king, a wheel-turning monarch (cakkavatti), righteous, a king of Dhamma, lord of the four quarters, triumphant, who has attained stability in his realm, endowed with the seven treasures. These seven treasures are his, namely: the wheel-treasure, the elephant-treasure, the horse-treasure, the gem-treasure, the woman-treasure, the householder-treasure, and the counsellor-treasure as the seventh. And he has more than a thousand sons — heroes, of heroic bearing, crushers of enemy armies. Having conquered this earth bounded by the ocean — without rod, without sword, by Dhamma — he dwells over it. But if he goes forth from the home into homelessness, he becomes an Arahant, a Fully Self-Enlightened One, one who draws back the veil in the world"? Is there indeed such a discourse (suttanta)?
S. Yes.
P. Then indeed, one endowed with the marks is a Bodhisatta.
