[Footnotes printed in the Siam Raṭṭha edition, citing the Commentary (Aṭṭhakathā):]
¹ (Anchored in the preceding word-purification lines.) "Herein, in 'khandhā rūpaṃ' ('Are the aggregates form?') and so on, the meaning should be taken as 'khandho — rūpakkhandho' ('Is the aggregate the form-aggregate?'), 'khandhā — vedanākkhandho' ('Are the aggregates the feeling-aggregate?'). Why? Because in the exposition section (niddesavāra) it is divided thus. For there [it runs]: '"Is form an aggregate?" — "Yes (āmantā)." "Are the aggregates the form-aggregate?" — "The form-aggregate is both form and the form-aggregate; the remaining aggregates are aggregates, not the form-aggregate."' Thus, for 'khandhā rūpaṃ' and so on, the term is lifted out by the method 'khandho — rūpakkhandho' and so on, and the meaning analyzed. — The Commentary."
² "Herein, the meaning of 'khandhā vedanā' ('Are the aggregates feeling?') and so on should be understood by the method 'khandhā — vedanākkhandho' ('Are the aggregates the feeling-aggregate?') and so on; otherwise there would be contradiction with the exposition section. — The Commentary."
