[112] Now at that time a certain family had died of pestilence (ahivātakaroga). Of that family, a father and son remained. Having gone forth (pabbajitvā) among the bhikkhus, they walked for alms together. Then, when alms-food was given to the father, that boy ran up and said: "Give some to me too, father! Give some to me too, father!"
People complained, criticized, and spread it about, saying: "These ascetics, sons of the Sakyan, are not celibate; this boy was born of a bhikkhunī."
The bhikkhus heard those people complaining, criticizing, and spreading it about. Then those bhikkhus reported this matter to the Blessed One.
"Bhikkhus, a boy under fifteen years of age should not be given the going forth. Whoever should give the going forth commits an offense of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa)."
