[143] Immediately thereupon the shadow should be measured, the measure of the season should be announced, the portion of the day should be announced, the summary (saṅgīti) should be announced, and the four supports (nissaya) should be announced: "The going forth (pabbajjā) has as its support the meal of almsfood morsels (piṇḍiyālopabhojana); therein you should make effort for as long as life lasts. The extra allowances (atirekalābha) are: a meal for the Saṅgha, a meal for designated bhikkhus, an invitation-meal, a meal distributed by ticket, a meal given fortnightly, a meal given on the Uposatha day, a meal given on the day after the Uposatha. "The going forth has as its support the rag-robe (paṃsukūlacīvara); therein you should make effort for as long as life lasts. The extra allowances are: linen, cotton, silk, wool, coarse hemp, and mixed cloth. "The going forth has as its support the lodging at the root of a tree; therein you should make effort for as long as life lasts. The extra allowances are: a dwelling, a half-gabled building, a long storied mansion, a flat-roofed building, and a cave. "The going forth has as its support fermented cow's urine as medicine (pūtimuttabhesajja); therein you should make effort for as long as life lasts. The extra allowances are: ghee, fresh butter, oil, honey, and molasses." The Four Supports are finished.
