[152] Now at that time the bhikkhus of the group of six (chabbaggiyā) recited the Pātimokkha to whatever assembly was present, each to his own assembly. They informed the Blessed One of this matter. "Bhikkhus, the Pātimokkha should not be recited to whatever assembly is present, each to his own assembly; whoever should so recite it commits an offense of wrongdoing (dukkaṭa). I allow, bhikkhus, the Uposatha act (uposathakamma) for those who are in concord."
Then it occurred to the bhikkhus: "It has been laid down by the Blessed One that the Uposatha act is for those who are in concord. Now to what extent is there concord (sāmaggī) — as far as a single residence (āvāsa), or the whole earth?" They informed the Blessed One of this matter. "I allow, bhikkhus, concord to extend as far as a single residence."
