[213] Now at that time the great dwelling (mahāvihāra) of the Saṅgha was falling into disrepair. A certain lay follower had had building material (bhaṇḍa) cut in the forest. He sent a messenger into the presence of the bhikkhus, saying: "If the venerable ones would have that material carried away, I would give that material." They reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, I allow you to go on account of business of the Saṅgha (saṅghakaraṇīya); the return is to be made within seven days."
