[252] Having kept the rains in the Kosalan country, they came to see the Teacher [1];
the uncomfortable co-residence, like cattle [herded together] [2]; mutual conformity [i.e., the allowance of the invitation (pavāraṇā) for mutual admonition] [3];
those inviting [while seated] on seats [4], and the two [days of invitation] [5–6];
the [formal] act, [the conveying of the invitation by] the sick [7], and relatives [8];
the king [9], robbers [10], rogues [11], and likewise bhikkhus who are enemies [12];
five [13], four [14], three [15], two [16], one [17]; one who has committed [an offense] [18], one in doubt [19], one who remembers [an offense] [20];
the whole Saṅgha [with an offense in common (sabhāgāpatti)] [21], [the whole Saṅgha] in doubt [22]; the more numerous [23], the equal [24], and the fewer [25];
the residents [and] the fourteenth [day] [26], the marks [of a resident] [27], both [kinds of] communion [28];
[where] one should [not] go [29]; not while [one such as a bhikkhunī] is seated [in the assembly] [30]; on the giving of consent (chanda) [31], and the invitation [not on a non-invitation day] [32];
held up by the wanderers [i.e., foresters] [33], [the night] far spent [34], the rain-cloud [35], and danger in between [36], and the invitation [of one with an offense] [37];
they do not make [an opportunity] [38]; "ours first" [39]; and [the invitation] not [validly] suspended [40], and [the suspending] of a bhikkhu['s invitation] [41] — "on what account?" and "which [offense]?" — by what is seen, by what is heard, or by suspicion; the accuser and the accused;
the grave matter [42–43], and the quarrel [44]; the extension of the invitation [45]; "one who is not master [over another's invitation] — let him invite" [46].
