[17] Faculty condition (indriya-paccaya): The eye faculty (cakkhundriya) is a condition, by way of faculty condition, for the eye-consciousness element (cakkhuviññāṇadhātu) and for the phenomena (dhammā) associated with it. The ear faculty (sotindriya) is a condition, by way of faculty condition, for the ear-consciousness element (sotaviññāṇadhātu) and for the phenomena associated with it. The nose faculty (ghānindriya) is a condition, by way of faculty condition, for the nose-consciousness element (ghānaviññāṇadhātu) and for the phenomena associated with it. The tongue faculty (jivhindriya) is a condition, by way of faculty condition, for the tongue-consciousness element (jivhāviññāṇadhātu) and for the phenomena associated with it. The body faculty (kāyindriya) is a condition, by way of faculty condition, for the body-consciousness element (kāyaviññāṇadhātu) and for the phenomena associated with it. The material life faculty (rūpajīvitindriya) is a condition, by way of faculty condition, for forms born of kamma (kaṭattārūpa). The immaterial faculties (arūpino indriyā) are a condition, by way of faculty condition, for the phenomena associated with them and for the forms originated thereby.
