[264] Dependent on a material phenomenon (rūpī dhamma), a material phenomenon arises, not by root condition (na-hetupaccayā): [dependent on] one primary element (mahābhūta) …; for the non-percipient beings (asaññasattā), [dependent on] one primary element …. Dependent on a material phenomenon, an immaterial phenomenon (arūpī dhamma) arises, not by root condition: dependent on the eye base (cakkhāyatana), eye-consciousness (cakkhuviññāṇa) [arises]; dependent on the body base (kāyāyatana), body-consciousness (kāyaviññāṇa) [arises]; dependent on the base (vatthu), the rootless (ahetuka) immaterial aggregates (khandhā) [arise]; at the moment of rootless rebirth-linking (paṭisandhi) [likewise]; dependent on the base, delusion (moha) accompanied by doubt (vicikicchā), accompanied by restlessness (uddhacca) [arises]. Dependent on a material phenomenon, material and immaterial phenomena arise, not by root condition: occurrence (pavatti) and rebirth-linking are to be elaborated.
